Bodega Bay
We brought our bikes hoping to ride but the roads here had little to no shoulder and to get anywhere from our campground would mean driving on Hwy 1. So today, we went out in the car.
We checked out Bodega Dunes and Wright’s Beach campgrounds. I’m happy with ours. We also rode around the golfing community and enjoyed the different styles of homes, the plantings, and the views of the ocean and bay.
We drove down to Bodega Head and stood for a while looking for whales without seeing any. The views, however, made the drive well worth it.
We stopped for lunch at Spud Point Crab Company. The family owns three fishing boats. The two most popular items are crab sandwiches and clam chowder. You can tell that's what to get because they seem to have a continuous stream of fresh sandwiches and cups of soup. Order and your food is handed to you. We shared one of each - both were delicious. The crab sandwich had big chunks of crab.
We stopped at Fishetarian to buy local fish but we were disappointed with the selection so we left without buying anything. Instead, we went to Bodega Bay Oyster where we bought a dozen oysters after we were able to sample two different types.
A local told us the Valley Ford Cheese and Creamery had good ice cream and made their own cheese so we headed there, only to find them closed - no explanation, everything says they are open on Wednesday but no one was there.
On the way back to the campground, we went to Bodega. I hadn’t realized St. Teresa's Catholic church was one of The Birds filming locations, as was the adjoining school. The school is now a private residence that still looks pretty much as it does in the movie.
We went into an artist cooperative. I bought a pair of earrings. Then, we got locally made sausage from the store in town.
Back at the campground, I went for my daily walk along the ocean beach. It was low tide and although it was windy, I enjoyed walking out 1.5 miles. Coming back was another story. The headwinds made it much more challenging.
Denis shucked the oysters for dinner - they were delicious.
After dinner, I Zoomed into Book Club while Denis remotely attended an Amateur Radio meeting.
