Day 4,
After lunch, we drove to the Samuel H Boardman State Scenic Corridor. Denis thought that it might be a good place to ride bikes but when we found it shared the road with 101, we thought better of it.
The drive is along the Oregon coast and beautiful. There are many places that have trails to the beach or hikes along the cliffs. The first place we stopped was the trail to the Cape Ferrelo Viewpoint. The hike is a narrow trail through mostly grassy areas. The views are spectacular. There were a great variety of wildflowers in bloom. There is one spot that is particularly steep and since it is an out and back, it made the "easy" hike a bit more challenging.
The Cape is the southernmost cape on the Oregon coast and is named after a Portuguese captain of Juan Cabrillo who was part of an expedition that sailed up the Pacific Coast in 1542.
We then headed to Whaleshead Beach, another short walk off the Corridor. We hung out there for a while watching the surf hit the rocks and Jim and Ardith tossing the ball for Cocoa. It was a lovely afternoon.
