Day 3
After breakfast, I baked a cake for dessert which meant we kinda got a late start to the rest of the day.
I had read about a Farmers’ Market on Wednesday and wanted to go. Jim drove. They’d been to that market before and Ardith had no interest in getting out. I understood why. There was one vendor selling produce and then the usual honey, coffee, bakery, meat folks, and the rest were craftspeople. Really disappointing but I did buy an ear of corn for lunch and strawberries.
We stopped at a few other places as we drove around Brookings. We found Pacific Ocean Harvesters. They have local freshly caught fish. Beachin' Bakery - the pecan roll and cheddar/jalapeno roll were fine (wouldn't recommend), and a Dollar Store, where I bought a few paper goods we needed for the pod.
We had lunch back at the campground and then set out on a hike. Ardith didn’t want to walk from the campground so she drove to the Redwood Nature Trail trailhead. The hike is through what might be a grove of the northernmost Redwoods, interspersed with Douglas Fir and other trees, bushes, and bridges that go over the creeks.
It is a lovely loop though it was rated as easy, there are a few pretty steep areas and the trail can get quite narrow in spots. I was happy it hadn't rained recently. The trees are so tall. We are in the photo below to give perspective. After the loop, Ardith drove back but Denis and I walked the River View Trail back to the campground. It was shady so a great environment for ferns.
Back at the campsite, I made mango salad for dinner and then finished off the Tangy Meatball Soup. Both were a hit.
