Day 1, Happy it wasn't our first RV trip

The r-pod window was finally replaced on Saturday. Our plan was to leave today, Monday. I wanted to make sure the window was replaced and we had the r-pod back before I started making plans to pack up.

It absolutely takes me 2 days to plan meals, buy food, prepare food, pack up the food, required kitchen utensils, clothes, and toiletries and put the house in order. That left me Sunday. As hard as I tried, I couldn't get everything done. I got up this morning at 6:00 a.m. and we still didn't get out until nearly one. Aside from all the normal things, Denis noticed there were still glass pebbles from the window around the bed. He used our household vacuum cleaner until it apparently overheated and stopped working. That sent me off on a project that was long overdue to clean the vacuum cleaner filters.

When we finally got out, our trip seemed to be going smoothly until we stopped for gas. On the way out of the gas station, there was a dip in the road and the trailer hit bottom breaking the breakaway cable. We didn't realize it until we were on the freeway and the trailer started acting up. The brake controller told us that the trailer had become unhitched and that we needed to pull over immediately. When we did, we noticed the brakes were smoking. We limped the trailer to the next exit and tried phoning Good Sam roadside assistance.

While we were waiting for them to get back to us we drove to a Napa car parts to find a replacement cable. They had two different cables but neither of them worked with our rig.

While we were there, Good Sam got back to us and told us that it would be a minimum of $360 for someone to come out and assess our brakes. By this time they had cooled down and Denis found that if he tied the cable together the brakes seemed to work. So, we decided to make our way to Testa Vineyards, our Harvest Host stay for the night.

We made it without incident.

The parking lot is gravel and not far off of 101. We were not able to get here early enough to purchase the bottle of wine so we will probably leave a "donation" to cover the $20 minimum spend before the night.
