Day 16, The Rain Shadow, Hello Sunshine
We spent party of the day doing things one needs to do after being on the road for two weeks. Bill and Susan graciously let us use their laundry facilities each time we've visited. So much nicer than a laundry mat. Denis went and filled up the propane tanks and went to the local hardware store to buy some things he needed to secure the bikes.
Henery Hardware had an amazing selection of items. Like many small town hardware stores, the variety of items includes many different departments, including a large selection of kitchen items and leisure water. Henery is across from a large boat yard. Denis was able to find exactly what he needed and was impressed they carry a full selection of metric and English tools.
I loved the large bulletin board outside. It was nice to see people still advertised by pinning up fliers.
Susan and I spent a few hours wandering the shops of Port Townsend. There are a large variety of stores you might expect to find at a tourist destination with nicely curated items and displays that entice you to happily shop and buy. My favorite store was Earthen Works Gallery which features American Crafts and Artists.
Many of these stores rely on tourists from cruise ships. It's nice to see they've been able to hang on while waiting for the tourists to return.
There are a number of places Denis and I have enjoyed going to in Port Townsend. One is Elevated Ice Cream. Their handmade ice cream has some interesting flavors. I had Cardamon and Denis enjoyed Cinnamon. Have you ever wondered if you are getting the same size scoop as the person in front of you in line? This place sells their ice cream by the ounce so you don't have to feel rained on.
The adventures continue with sunshine at last.
