Day 4, Where We Rely on the Kindness of Strangers

Our Beachside campsite is close to the ocean though we have limited views due to the trees. There is a short path from our site to the beach. This, and the opportunity to camp with Denis's sister, Ardith, and her husband, Jim, is why we are here.
We got through the night without incident. The window held together with no wind or rain leaks.

Denis spent much of the morning chasing phone signal that was strong enough to make calls. It is still unclear whether the RV manufacturer will be of any help in covering the repair of the window. Despite many Rpod owners having much the same experience we have, the woman insisted there was only a 12 month warranty. Regardless, we needed to have a better solution.

We packed up and headed north to Caliber Collision in Newport. The folks there were very kind and wrapped our window with Crash Wrap. They didn't charge us saying they were happy to help get us back on the road. We are so grateful.
While we have no guarantee that it will hold the window in place, we've decided to continue on our trip as planned. We are here two more nights and then spend three nights near Tillamook, 80 miles north assuming things are stable. We will reassess the situation before deciding what to do from there.

Tonight was our big dinner out. It's hard to say we are camping when we treat ourselves to a pretty delicious 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Restaurant Beck should be on the list of anyone who's a fine dining fan and traveling in the Newport, OR area. Denis's sister, Ardith, suggested it. After the past two years of mostly avoiding indoor dining, this was such a welcome change. Each delicious course was artfully presented and paired with an interesting glass of wine that nicely complemented the course. Along with a wonderful view of the ocean, it was a special night.
The restaurant is in Whale Cove Inn. A pretty unassuming looking place from the road but definitely a special occasion boutique hotel with a series of boardwalks out back that wind down to the beach and hot tubs on every balcony.

  1. When you get home I want to hear more! Newport is just north of Yachats, which we love.
