Day 64, Cattle and fossils and wind, oh my
Kansas is flat, and windy. That makes it a great place to have wind turbines. We saw lots.
To break up the monotony, we stopped in Oakley to have our picnic lunch. The city park we stopped at has a small fossil and history museum. Vi Fick collected locally found fossils. There are thousands. Along with the fossils is a large collection of local historic artifacts. And no, Annie Oakley is not from here She grew up in Ohio.
We are spending the night on Goodland, KS, the home of the largest Van Gogh reproduction to celebrate Kansas as the Sunflower State. The sunflowers are a native wild sunflower.
There isn't much going on in Goodland. However, this weekend is the Flatlander Festival. One of the features is the classic cars That was fun for us as we drove around the downtown and saw a number of them already parked for tomorrow.
There is also an 88-mile motorcycle loop on local roads. Fingers crossed we'll be on our way to Colorado before they start.
