Day 63

We drove on into Kansas on a long, straight, but slightly rolling road across the prairie. We are back into long stretches between services which means making careful plans for gas and rest stops.

There are signs that warn that the road is closed when the lights are flashing. We learned that because there are such long stretches of road between exits, the road is closed at an exit with services in cases of storms. Our campground last night had a rule that a motorized vehicle must be present over night in case the campground must be evacuated. Luckily, while it's been windy, the weather hasn't been an issue.

Tonight's campground is simply a place to stay overnight with electric and water and not much else.

We drove into the closest city, Salina. It is said to be an art center. There are lots of sculptures along the streets but we didn't find any compelling enough to park and walk around.

Instead, we found the Marty Bender Nature Trail. It is a combination of prairie

and woods along a creek.

There are surprises along the way, like this swing.
