Day 46, I Love a Parade
Marlborough, MA is a small city with a lot of civic pride. Each Labor Day (except for last year, of course), the town gathers to celebrate Labor Day and the men and women, boys and girls, who make Marlborough the close-knit community that it is.
Today, we took our chairs, walked 1.5 miles into the center of town, and joined with a number of neighbors who cheered their fire, police, and sheriff departments, school marching bands, and minor league sports teams.
Being New England, some of the marching bands looked a little different from ones we're likely to see in San Jose, CA.
Luckily, the crowd wasn't so thick that we managed to keep ourselves fairly separated from the families to the sides of us. The parade, which lasted about 1 hour 45 minutes was enjoyed by all ages - especially by the younger crowd that managed to talk their parents into buying something from one of the many vendors; some things never change. It was nice to see that the traditions of small-town America have managed to survive.
Denis and I spent the rest of the day planning our trip home. We'd planned to travel through Asheville, Nashville, Memphis, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio - partly to visit places we've wanted to see but mostly to continue our friends and family tour. Covid/Delta numbers and the news reports we've heard have made us rethink our trip home. After talking to many friends who have traveled East to West before us, we decided to take a more central route with 🤞 that we can head out again sometime in the not too distant future. So for now, we'll be marching our way home through middle America.
