Day 37, Finding Comfort in Familiar Faces and Discovering New Things About Old Places
My mom used to use my visiting as an excuse to gather all the cousins together. I haven't been back to Buffalo since my mom died in January 2020. Of course, Covid intervened as well. With more than a little bit of trepidation, we haven't socialized with a group that large in quite some time, 15 of us met outside, shared lunch, caught up with each other's news, and laughed at stories remembering times long ago and people who are no longer with us. It was soul quenching. Now, I pray we all stay safe and healthy and that I'll be back to gather us all together again in the not too distant future.
After that, Denis and I met a friend we've had for over 45 years. We took a hike in a place that wasn't too far from where we once lived. There was a cider mill at Glen Falls Park, and that's about as far as we usually got. Today, we ventured father. It was fun to see kids playing in the water and a number of bridal parties practically lined up to take photos in the park.
We came across a building that had been a convent, but had been converted into senior housing apartments. Its grounds were once private but now are part of an 80 acre state park, which I guess is why we hadn't known about it but found our way there today.
We finished the day with our friend joining us for dinner and a campfire at the campground. It's been really fun having company and an excuse to sit around the fire.
Awesome! Looks like a great time was had by all.
