Day 34, Rolling on the River
One of the reasons most people come to Ohiopyle is for the Youghiogheny River. There are lots of water activities, white water rafting is one.
We'd only white water rafted a few times before. We had the choice of a float through Class 1 and a few Class 2 rapids, an intermediate trip with 15 Class 3 and a few Class 2 rapids, or one with Class 4 and 5 rapids that was clearly above our ability. We booked the middle with The Ohiopyle Trading Co.
I was a bit nervous starting out but our guide was great at giving directions. Everyone, we shared the paddling with a family of four, stayed in the raft, except when they wanted to go swimming. We had a great time floating and paddling through green forested areas, large boulders, and steep cliffs. We would highly recommend it to anyone traveling here.
The rest of the day was spent exploring park trails, waterfalls, overlooks of the gorge, and just enjoying being here.
Except… We thought we were in for the night when Denis decided we might not have enough gas while pulling the RV to make it to the closest gas station. Rather than have that excitement tomorrow, we headed out, driving 17 miles to find gas. It gave us the opportunity to explore another corner of the area and make heading to Buffalo a lot less stressful.
