Day 27, Sometimes Facebook Brings People Together
Many campers do wake up early. One thing that is quite noticeable when you are driving east across time zones is the time of sunrise. This morning, we ate breakfast at a picnic table facing the Missouri River as the sun came up. Yesterday it would still have been dark.
We were across the river by 8:00 a.m. for the opening of the Farmers Market. It wasn't a large one by our local California standards, but it had locally grown meat, poultry and lots of vegetables. It wasn't until we left that we realized that we hadn't bought any fruit. Normally, we find we arrive home with more fruit than vegetables. And yes, we did buy corn.
It was another day of many miles through few towns but lots of cornfields. This time, instead of taking the interstate, we took a bit quieter road, Hwy 20. It was more relaxing driving since there were fewer semis roaring past us. We did, however, need to be more watchful of our fuel levels since there can be a long way between unknown brands of gas.
We stopped for lunch at a local park, something we like to do. This one had a trail that's about a mile that circled the lake. It was nice to get out and stretch our legs.
Tonight we are at Sugar Bottom in Solon, Iowa. The dam built by the Army Corps of Engineers on the Iowa River created a series of lakes and they put campground around some of it. The great thing for us is full hook ups (electric, water, and sewer) and a perfectly flat pad to park on for $13/night.
I'm not a huge fan of Facebook. I've found it has driven family members and friends apart over the past few years. Since we bought the R-pod, Denis has gotten lots of great information and tips from R-pod groups on Facebook. There's even one that's specific to our model. A few days into our problem with the awning someone came through with tips on how to find the fuse that might be causing the issue. Sure enough, Denis dismantled a panel under the frig and found it. A visit to the local Ace, one of the best provisioned I've ever seen, fuse replacements found, and we have a working awning again. How nice when Facebook provides a way to bring people from all across the country together to help and support each other.
