Day 15, Big Sky Country

Today was a kinda laid back day. The drive into Big Sky was shorter than some other days and there weren't as many big semis.

This part of Montana is at a high elevation. It has jagged mountains, scrubby brush, evergreen trees, and lots of rivers.

On our way to tonight's destination, we stopped in Bozeman. The is a butcher there, Daniel's, that has locally sourced meats, makes their own sausages and cold cuts, and has ready to grill/cook meats. We bought bison sausages, mortadella, and a beautiful looking marinated pork chop. Having procured the meat, we need to stop at a grocery store to round out the meals.

We also needed a hardware store and Denis wanted his bike looked at. Unfortunately, after the ride down the Hiawatha, he noticed cracks in his frame and wanted it checked out.

I like Bozeman. Maybe it's because it's a college town. There is a cute downtown with lots of locally owned shops. The neighborhood around that area have modest houses on treed streets. I think I could live there. The issue is, so do a lot of other out-of-towners. They are driving up the cost of real estate making it unaffordable for many of the long time locals. Sounds like an issue faced by many communities over many years.

We got settled in Big Sky, took a short walk (one we've taken before in the winter with Colleen's dog, Cody) to the top of the road, and made it back right before a short shower. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to clear the smoke from the skies.

While we enjoy our trailer, being able to take advantage of people's kind and generous hospitality is pretty great. We got to make dinner in a full sized kitchen and do laundry at the same time. It felt pretty luxurious and we are feeling pretty lucky.
