Day 12, Eastern Washington into Idaho

Today we added a new state to our travels. After driving east on Hwy 90, we entered Idaho.

Before leaving, we walked the very short interpretive trail at Ginkgo Petrified Forest. It had lots on information on how the petrified logs were formed and about the geological formation of the area. There was a small group of rocks with petroglyphs that had been moved to this site when the dam was built which would have caused them to be submerged.

We stopped at the Wild Horse Monument scenic overlook. Beautiful vista that might have been even more beautiful had it not been muted by the smoke in the air.

I was surprised how long we drove before reaching Spokane. I also hadn't realized it was on the Washington-Idaho border. I hope to know US geography better by the end of this trip.

One of the things we like to do is pack lunch in the morning and stop somewhere along the way to eat. We prefer to find a local park where we can park, sit at a picnic bench and maybe take a short walk around. Today, we found a small park, not too far off 90 in Spokane.

We arrived in Wallace, Idaho. The campground seems to share a parking lot with a brewery. So we're sitting enjoying a brew and struggling with the spotty internet.
